14:45 UPDATE: Arsenal snubbed Eden Hazard deal

Arsenal’s former transfer negotiator Dick Law has revealed the reason why the club opted against signing Eden Hazard in the summer of 2012.

“We had the financial muscle, but the risk-reward calculation wasn’t clear,” he told Goal.

“Spending a lot of money on a player that didn’t work out would have really put the club in some financial straits.

“Did we miss out on talents? Certainly. I remember sitting in meetings with Steve, Ivan and Arsene and gnashing our teeth over Thibaut Courtois. We knew he was good.

“Eden Hazard as well, we wanted to do that deal. But there was a sense of responsibility and running the club prudently, all the time knowing that every £1 we spent we had to act as if it was our money. It was very, very difficult.”

Barcelona paid Griezmann’s £107m (€120m) release clause to sign the striker from Atletico Madrid.

12:35 UPDATE: Lukaku Man Utd worry

Man Utd and Inter Milan have “bad blood” between them and that could scupper any potential move for Romelu Lukaku, says Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.

“There is some sort of bad blood between the two clubs,” Solhekol said.

“If you remember two years ago, Manchester United were desperate to sign Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan.

“They offered €45million, Inter Milan said ‘we will not let him go unless we get €50m’ and they refused to sell him over just €5m.

“And I think people at Manchester United remember how Inter Milan behaved two years ago.”

12:00 UPDATE: Fekir to leave Lyon

Nabil Fekir is increasingly likely to leave Lyon this summer after director of football Juninho Pernambucano indicated that the Frenchman has told him he wants to leave the club.

Juninho said: “Honestly, I think it’s going to be difficult to convince him to continue. His generation has gone away.

“It’s not a closed matter but I’m telling you the truth. We would like to keep him. For the moment, the only conceivable departure is his.

“As long as he does not leave, we will work with him as if he were going to stay.

“It’s up to him to think about it, to make a decision with his family. But the possibility that he leaves is a reality.”

11:30 UPDATE: Virgil van Dijk to Barcelona snub

Virgil van Dijk’s agents quickly rebuffed an approach from Barcelona.

The Mirror report that Barcelona made enquiries to the representatives of the Dutch centre-back to find out whether or not he might be tempted by a move to the Nou Camp.

But it is claimed any chance of a big-money move away from Liverpool was shut down.

Van Dijk has been instrumental for Liverpool following his move from Southampton, with the defender guiding the Reds to Champions League glory.

11:00 UPDATE: Villa signing backed

Aston Villa should sign Burnley star Tom Heaton, as he’d be perfect under Dean Smith, Darren Bent claims.

“I do like Tom Heaton but obviously you look at his age and he’s a bit older than the rest,” Bent told Football Insider.

“He’s a brilliant goalkeeper from what I’ve seen of him, got England caps. Obviously, you can never have enough good goalkeepers because we’ve seen how crucial it is in any league, where you’ve got a very good goalkeeper and below-par, average goalkeeper and something happens to the first one, it could cost you.

“I do believe Villa can go out and get one more. I probably would go Tom Heaton, I know he’s a bit older, but with his international experience and experience in general, I’d probably go for him.”

09:10 UPDATE: Pogba Man Utd hint

Paul Pogba is one of the prominent players in Manchester United’s 2019/20 away kit launch, as speculation over his future continues.

As chatter rumbles on regarding the 25-year-old’s future, the club refuse to acknowledge it and have made Pogba prevalent in the release of their new gold away strip.

Adidas describe the kit as a “fresh savannah-toned aesthetic and intricate patterned design that takes its inspiration from the many mosaics that colour the streets of Manchester’s creative district, the Northern Q.”

Pogba could quit United for Real Madrid or Juventus this summer.

08:10 UPDATE: Arsenal to land Real Madrid ace?

Arsenal are more likely to sign Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos than Tottenham, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth reckons.

“Arsenal now, it appears, are going head-to-head with Tottenham for Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid,” Sheth said.

“It appears that what Ceballos wants might fit in more with what Arsenal can do.

“I think Ceballos wants to do a loan, Real Madrid would ideally like to sell to get some money into the coffers to maybe buy other players.

“But Ceballos feels that he can still have an impact at the Bernabeu.

“So if you couple that with Arsenal’s, limited, we’re told, transfer budget, they can bring someone in like that on loan.

“Ceballos is looking for first-team football. Is he more likely to get it there than at Tottenham?”

07:50 UPDATE: Jurgen Klopp talks Liverpool transfer plans

Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool will not spend big this summer, claiming the Reds have everything they need.

“We brought them in already, only you don’t realise it,” insisted Klopp. “Rhian Brewster; [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain didn’t play last year; all the young boys today.

“They are all new players for us, that’s all good. The transfer market is open until August 8.

“The whole of Europe had the idea to close the transfer window early and the only country that did it was then England, so we close it now three weeks before all the others.

“We will see what we do but I don’t think it will be the biggest transfer window of all time.”

07:30 UPDATE: Mateo Kovacic on Chelsea move

Mateo Kovacic is ready to add more goals and assists to his game next season at Chelsea.

“It means a lot because I saw the club wanted me and I wanted to stay here from the first day,” he said after making his move from Real Madrid permanent.

“We had a good connection so I’m happy to stay here, to work hard and play well.

“I had a good relationship with the fans from the start. We had some good games and some bad games but I think in the end we did a good job.”
