It has only taken seven matches for Florentino Luis to attract Paris Saint-Germain’s attention but the French giants are serious about making him their next star signing.
A breakthrough talent at Benfica, Florentino has just four league appearances and three more in the Europa League, accumulating a mere 459 minutes of play.
Le Parisien, A Bola and Record have all featured the youngster on their front pages, reporting that PSG are set to move for the midfielder.
Recent midfield signings haven’t always gone to plan at the Parc des Princes and this summer they are likely to lose Adrien Rabiot and Giovani Lo Celso, which is worsened by their failure to beat Barcelona to Frenkie de Jong.
Leandro Paredes arrived in Paris but hasn’t quite taken command of their midfield as expected, with Marquinhos even having to step out of his normal central defensive role at times.
Negotiations for the 19-year-old are already underway, and the players 60 million euros release clause isn’t seen as a problem, though Benfica are already working to double it to 120 million euros and extend his contract until 2023.
“He’s an octopus,” said Joao Tralhao, former director at Benfica.
“He has an outstanding ability to analyse the position and trajectory of the ball and to anticipate an opponent’s moves.
“He’s a complete stopper that gives his teammates freedom.”
