Gaetano played the last five minutes of the game at the Stadio San Paolo, which prompted his family to celebrate.

His grandmother Carmela and the rest of his family took to the streets of Naples to mark the huge occasion, with fireworks being set off. However, having had an argument with some neighbours about all the noise, Carmella tragically suffered a heart attack and died.

Gianluca’s dad Gianfelice, called home to speak to his mother after the game but their was no answer.

Gaetano took to Instagram to pay tribute to his granny, writing: ‘You saw me making the debut but I couldn’t see you for the last time, I thank you for everything about all the beautiful things done together, for the Christmas dinners and all of the birthdays.

Mamma mia, grandmother, what pizza you made in the oven, how to bake macaroni, sprinkle pasta with pesto and tomato, buy pesto with mushrooms, my goodness. You will stay with me, you will remain in my heart.

‘Thanks for all these years, I’m sorry I didn’t see you for the last time and couldn’t hug you hard. I love you grandma, rest in peace, you will always be with me in my heart.’
