Liverpool not slowing down

Raheem Sterling believes the Premier League title race will go to the wire and insists there will be no let-up from Manchester City.

Liverpool’s win over Chelsea on Sunday sent them back to the top, just a couple of hours after City beat Crystal Palace 3-1 to briefly lead the pack.

But with City having played a game less, their destiny is in their own hands.

Sterling feels the title rivals will continue matching each other stride for stride over what promises to be an exciting run-in.

“Yes, 100 per cent, the way Liverpool have been playing it will go down to the wire,” he said. “I don’t see us slowing down now. Liverpool have a great squad, great self-belief, but so do we.”

We watched the Masters

Liverpool’s players underlined their focus is on this season’s Premier League title bid by watching the Masters golf rather than rivals Manchester City’s victory over Crystal Palace.

Pep Guardiola’s side briefly returned to the top of the table with a 3-1 win at Selhurst Park after kicking off two and a half hours before the Reds’ 2-0 defeat of Chelsea at Anfield.

It is a scenario which will occur in the next two rounds of fixtures as City will again play before Liverpool.

But defender Andy Robertson said the players have become well-versed in blocking the outside noise.

“We had the golf on. I wanted Tiger to win it,” said the Scotland captain. “I was watching it with James Milner in the treatment room. I’m sure some of the lads were aware of the City score but it wasn’t something we spoke about.

“We didn’t know the City result beforehand but because we hadn’t heard anything we just guessed they had won.”

Wanted: Julian Brandt

Liverpool have competition in the battle to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Julian Brandt, reports claim.

Jurgen Klopp’s title challengers have frequently been linked with the attacking talent, who has registered seven goals and 14 assists this season.

And German publication Bild claim Liverpool are ready to swoop.

It’s reported the Reds are prepared to trigger Brandt’s £22million release clause to bring the Germany international to Anfield.

However, Klopp will have to fend off competition from European rivals Juventus and Real Madrid, who are ready to make their presence known.

Jurgen Klopp previously wanted to sign Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne, but then-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho put a stop to any potential deal.

“When I was at Chelsea, there was so much in the press about my relationship with Jose Mourinho,” De Bruyne wrote for The Players’ Tribune.

“But the truth is that I only ever spoke to him twice. The plan was always for me to go on loan for a bit.

“So I went to Werder Bremen in 2012, and that season went great. When I came back to Chelsea the next summer, a few German clubs wanted to sign me.

“Klopp wanted me to come to Borussia Dortmund, and they played the kind of football that I enjoy. So I thought maybe Chelsea would let me go.

“But then Mourinho texted me, ‘You are staying. I want you to be part of this team.’”

Philippe Coutinho snub

Philippe Coutinho will not be joining Manchester United this summer after reportedly being disappointed with the jeers from the Old Trafford crowd last week.

United had been linked with a move for the former Liverpool star who could depart the Nou Camp this summer.

But Spanish outlet Sport claim Coutinho won’t be moving to United should he leave Barcelona.

It’s reported that the Brazilian ruled out the Red Devils after being jeered during the first leg of Barcelona’s Champions League clash with Manchester United last week.

Coutinho doesn’t want to betray his former supporters and knows a move to United would do exactly that.

Sadio Mane price-tag

Real Madrid would have to fork out £130million to sign Liverpool star Sadio Mane.

With Zinedine Zidane now at the helm, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is set to bankroll the former Ballon d’Or winner with a number of Galactico signings this summer.

Among the targets are Eden Hazard, Paul Pogba, Christian Eriksen and Mane.

But El Confidencial report that the Senegalese striker will not come cheap.

The Spanish publication indicate that the Madrid outfit will have to fork out around £130m for the 27-year-old.

Rafael Camacho takes aim

Liverpool forward Rafael Camacho has reacted angrily to being played out of position in the Reds’ Under-23 side.

Camacho scored a hat-trick as Liverpool’s youngsters smashed Leicester 6-0 on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp has used Camacho as a right-back in each of his two first team appearances for Liverpool.

And the Portugal U18 international took to social media to slam Klopp and his coaching staff for their reluctancy to play him further forward.

“I do not know whose idea it is, but I will prove that they are mistaken about my football,” Camacho’s Instagram post read. “I’m not a right defender, I’m an attacker who scores goals. This is my DNA.”
