Columbus Crew winger Gyasi Zardes, who had been linked with a move to Leeds United earlier this season, has signed a new contract with the MLS club.
TEAMtalk reported back in January that Leeds were among several English sides that were chasing Zardes, as were Fulham, Middlesbrough, Norwich City, Crystal Palace and Huddersfield Town.
Since arriving in Columbus from Los Angeles Galaxy last year, Zardes has scored 24 in 48 appearances across all competitions.
Chelsea’s academy striker Martell Taylor-Crossdale is set to join Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim, despite strong interest from Bristol City, with the 19-year-old also being linked with Southampton and Fulham earlier this month, according to Bristol Live.
Taylor-Crossdale’s contract at Stamford Bridge is due to expire this summer, but as reported by Sky Sports, the teenager has turned the offer down and plans to fly to Germany to complete a medical ahead of signing for Hoffenheim, the side where Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson has made a name for himself whilst on loan this season.
The striker scored for Chelsea’s youth side that competed in the Checkatrade Trophy during a 5-0 win over Plymouth Argyle in October.
Staying with Chelsea, both they and Celtic are battling it out to lure academy starlet Ronan Darcy away from Bolton Wanderers.
However, Chelsea’s current transfer ban will prevent them from bringing him to Stamford Bridge and Football Insider reports that Celtic now lead the chase and they could get him for a much cheaper fee than the Blues would have had to spend, due to current compensation laws meaning that English clubs often have to spend more than those north of the border.
Darcy made his first team debut against Nottingham Forest earlier this month.
West Bromwich Albion, who last night exited the Championship’s play-offs after a penalty shootout defeat to Aston Villa, are reportedly interested in signing Rangers right-back James Tavernier.
Birmingham Mail reports that they attempted to sign Tavernier 12 months ago, but after their attempts were unsuccessful, turned to Mason Holgate, who spent the back end of the campaign on loan at The Hawthorns from Everton.
With Holgate’s time at the club now over, the Baggies remain in need of a right-back, where the attack-minded defender, who has scored 16 times and created 20 more this season, would be a welcome addition to the West Midlands.
