Celtic wanted to sign John McGinn last season before he ended up making the move to Aston Villa.

Kris Boyd has warned Celtic that they don’t want a repeat of the John McGinn situation as they reportedly chase Motherwell’s, David Turnbull.
Last summer, Celtic wanted to sign Hibernian’s McGinn, but he ended up moving to Championship side Aston Villa [Herlad Scotland], who have since been promoted to England’s top-flight.
Now, BBC Sport have claimed that the Scottish Premiership champions have seen a bid for Motherwell attacker Turnbull turned down recently.
Kilmarnock striker Boyd lauded Turnbull’s qualities and made a claim about what would happen if he moves to Parkhead and succeeds.
On Celtic missing out on Turnbull after McGinn saga last season: “I think when you look back over the years Rangers and Celtic have always been able to buy the best talents in Scotland,” Boyd told Sky Sports. “It has changed recently. You only have to take the John McGinn saga of last season [as an example] – It’s worrying [if it happens again].
“Celtic have always been a club who sign players where they are looking, ‘if he comes in and does well then in a year or two, can we still sell him on?’. I think David Turnbull ticks that box for Celtic. He showed at Motherwell last season what he can do. By going to Celtic, it would give him a chance at a higher level and I think by doing that, we could see him emerging on the international scene as well.
“The kids got talent. No doubt about that. He’s not one of these players that likes to get on the ball. He makes the ball do the work. I think if Celtic are interested then they really need to get this one done because they took a lot of stick for the John McGinn one.”
Villa’s McGinn has since gone on to help the Midlands giants earn promotion to the Premier League by winning over the supporters in some style.
He was awarded the Players Player of the Year, Fans Players of the Year and scored the decisive goal which won them promotion in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.
Turnbull, like many other Motherwell youngsters, had an outstanding campaign last time out and if the Bhoys sign him then they’ll be adding a player that can do some serious damage in the final third.
