Samuel Chukwueze scored the only goal of the game as Villarreal earned a 1-0 win over Girona on Sunday evening.
The Yellow Submarine have spent the most part of this season – sitting in the bottom three but Javi Calleja’s return as boss and their recent form has seen them move away from the dreaded drop zone.
Part of that improvement has been the arrival of young star Chukwueze, who continued his fine form from the get go against Girona.
The youngster almost opened the scoring in the first minute, having his shot saved by home keeper Bono, but he would be celebrated shortly after as he struck on the seventh minute.
Girona did have their chances and saw a goal ruled out through VAR, whilst Villarreal continued to attack, looking to extend their lead in the first half.
The second half continued to be entertaining but their was no action of real note to report as the visitors held on for three vital points.
The win moves Villarreal up to 15th in the La Liga standings, whilst struggling Girona sit one place above but having lost their last four games in a row – concern will be present at the Catalan club.
