Real Madrid star Mariano Diaz is not interested in a move to Arsenal and wants to fight for his place at the Bernabeu.

The 25-year-old is surplus to requirements in the Spanish capital and Zinedine Zidane is keen to offload the forward in a bid to raise funds in the club’s move for Paul Pogba.

Diaz is valued at around £25m by Madrid but they reportedly offered Arsenal the chance to sign him at a cut-price £18m, such is their need to quickly raise funds.

However, according to AS, Diaz has ‘no interest’ in playing under Unai Emery as he believes he can win over Zidane in Madrid.

Arsenal are said to have opened a line of dialogue with Madrid over the availability of Lucas Vazquez and it’s here that the La Liga giants raised Diaz as an option.

The Gunners were interested in a cut-price move but Diaz dreams of making it at the Bernabeu and in any case wishes to stay in Spain should he be forced to leave.

Diaz is likely to lose his no.7 shirt this season, regardless of whether he stays at the club.

New boy Eden Hazard will reportedly be handed the coveted shirt, once worn by Cristiano Ronaldo.
