No Willy for West Ham; Who’s next for a backup keeper?
During transfer season you hear all types of rumors. For the absurd to realistic, do we ever really know what’s real until they sign? One rumor surfaced last week that could honestly fall under both the absurd and realistic. The rumor, West Ham United are interested in picking up Alexis Sanchez from Manchester United.
This rumour initially broke on the West Ham Way Podcast by ExWHUEmployee last Wednesday night. The rumour was that the West Ham board put in a tentative enquiry for Sanchez. This initially drew interest from myself and other West Ham fans in a negative light because we haven’t seen the real Alexis Sanchez since his Arsenal days.
A few things stick out to me that make this seem more absurd and unreal. One, he is on an outrageous 500k a week contract. Two, apparently in this rumor Manchester United would allow him to leave for half or that, 250k, still too much. Three, he has been a flop since joining United in January of 2018.

The now 30-year-old Sanchez has only netted 5 goals in his current 18 month time in Manchester. I can definitely see where the word flop comes from and that’s a far stretch from his 80 goals in just 160 matches at Arsenal.
The one things that make this rumour even remotely realistic are, one, West Ham will most likely need for depth at the forward position, and Sanchez could fill that. Two, he is Chilean and that connect is there for him and the gaffer and we’ve all seen how just a quick change of scenery changes everything.
Alexis Sanchez, on his day, has been unstoppable. Something is clearly nothing going right in Manchester and has affected his play since he got there. My biggest issue? His price and just to put that in perspective, he would cost more a week than Arnie and Chicharito combined.
I would put this rumor at a possibility of 3 out of 10 due to the price that it would cost to get him and Pellegrini’s new transfer policy but a rumor can be a rumor for a reason so hold your breath, just maybe not too long.
